Day 01 - WSA Introduction

Welcome to our Web Security Appliance (WSA) training series! In this introductory session, we'll cover the course structure, certification paths, and the essential virtual appliances you'll be using. Join us as we dive into the world of Cisco security certifications and get ready to enhance your skills and knowledge.

  • Course Schedule and Access:
    • The WSA module takes around three weeks to complete.
    • Recorded sessions and materials will be provided via Google Drive.
    • Practical lab access will be assigned if needed.

  • Certification Overview:
    • The instructor provides an introduction to various Cisco certifications.
    • There are three associate-level certifications: DevNet Associate, CCNA (Routing and Switching or Enterprise), and CCNA CyberOps.
    • These associate certifications are not mandatory for NP (Network Professional) level certifications in version six of the certification track.
    • In version five, the CCNA was a prerequisite for CCNP and CCIE certifications, but this has changed in version six.

  • Version Six Changes:
    • In version six, to achieve CCNP Security certification, one needs to pass a core exam (S-Core) and one concentration exam out of six available options.
    • The core exam serves as a specialist certification and a prerequisite for the CCIE Security lab exam.
    • The core exam is valid for three years, extending the period to take the CCIE Security lab exam compared to the previous 18-month validity of the written exam in version five.

  • Devices and Simulations:
    • The course will cover various virtual appliances and devices required for CCIE Security, including Identity Service Engine, Web Security Appliance, Email Security Appliance, Firepower Management Center, and more.
    • Most devices and their functionalities will be simulated using EVNG (Emulated Virtual Network Generator).

  • Training Methodology:
    • The training approach covers both NP and IE level topics in an integrated manner, focusing on specific modules (e.g., WSA) from start to finish rather than splitting the training into separate NP and IE sections.

This video provides an in-depth overview of the course structure, certification pathways, and practical details necessary for the WSA module and related security certifications.
